It is very easy to make a brooch by yourself. You just need to have some jewelry findings like blanks of brooch and adhering beautiful stones or other items to them. You can attach pins with the help of glue on the back side of the brooch blank. This will create a very simple brooch for you. If you want to add more things it’s also quite easily. You can layer or stack several items on it. It will make it quite intricate and give it a captivating look. Different beads and stones will make it attractive and attention grabbing. Some wires may be used in the process to fasten the things used in this process.

The first step is to decide about the support of the brooch which you are going to design. This decision will help you select a half hard wire for the support of your brooch. This wire will be used to fit in the stones, beads and pearls.

Take an unbroken piece of the wire and turn its one side like a curve. This will serve the purpose of a stopper. Form a circle of the wire by making a loop or ring of it. Now start putting the beads and stones into the wire. Make different shapes of the wire like floral petals. Keeping the length of the wire in consideration, keep on looping it into petal shape. Layer each petal on the previous one by covering it partly and make a series of petals in this way. It’s not necessary to arrange these petals completely in line. They can be put a little out of order which looks more appealing. But it should be ensured that enough length of the wire is left at the end to fit in the large central piece of stone or bead.

Now put the remaining stone for the center of your brooch on the wire and finally draw the wire via middle of the floral design from the back side of your brooch. Now this end of the wire should also be turn making a curve so that it may not hurt you. You can put a little glue on this curved end to make it more secure. You need pins to be adhered or attached with your piece. Soldering may another option for you. It is a modern practice for which special tools are needed. It is usually used for joining clutches to more heavy bottoms of the brooches.

Some materials used for the brooches need to be coated before attaching or gluing any pin to the brooch. If raw brass is used for the brooch, then it should be coated because it will react with the oxygen. Several mist polishes and varnishes are available in the market. One care should be taken while using these paints is that they should not be used in closed rooms as they produce poisonous vapors. Some materials like stones and glass don’t require to be painted. This paint needs about 10-12 hors to be dried up and the same time will be needed, after the pin is glued, again. Some varnishes and polishes produce the poisonous fumes for several days. So extreme care should be taken and they should be left to dry for as much time as they need.
